Did you know that percussion musicians don't necessarily own their own drums?
Unlike a flutist who performs with their own flute, percussionists cannot travel with all the instruments required to play a piece of music - that could be over 20 different instruments! It's therefore up to the orchestra to provide them. For 30 years, the VIS has rented and carted dozens of percussion instruments for each concert at a cost of $5,000 each season. With eyes on the long-term financial benefits, we have a goal to purchase a bass drum & stand, a vibraphone, chimes, xylophone, a digital piano, cymbals, a Glockenspiel, a snare drum, a drum kit and a gong.
Your donation will help us purchase these integral instruments, the heartbeat of the orchestra. You may even choose to underwrite a specific instrument. All supporters will be invited to a Percussion Party in April 2026.
